Forced displacement in Nigeria cities represent a poignant chapter in people’s history and experiences, marked by deep social, economic, and human rights implications. In July 1990, the Lagos State government forcibly evicted over 300,000 people from Maroko under the pretext of environmental and urban renewal. This documentary will explore the complex and enduring issues surrounding spatial displacement through the lens of the Maroko eviction, offering a critical space for dialogue, reflection, and action. Issues relating to socio-political and economic drivers behind evictions, and how urban planning, land speculation, and class dynamics intersect will be explored. The documentary is ideal not for only urban planners but for anyone interested in inclusive urban development and social justice.
